Support for Injured Parents

Story

I’m raising money for my parents who were in a serious ATV accident in Costa Rica.

My father (age 74) broke fifteen ribs and his clavicle. He had to undergo emergency surgery to repair 9 of the ribs. He also had to have his lungs drained of 1200ml of blood via chest tube and multiple blood transfusions due to blood loss and low hemoglobin. He will need a medical escort during his entire trip home and will be hospitalized again upon arrival.

My mother (age 66) sustained severe head trauma causing a concussion and she underwent multiple MRI’s to ensure no brain damage had occurred. Her arm was broken in two places and she lost her ability to move it due to inflammation of the brachial plexus nerve. The pain is severely intense but the doctors don’t want to perform a nerve block out of fear of further damage to the nerve.

They are in Costa Rica with little family support, and the medical bills are quickly piling up. I am asking for 50,000 to help with medical bills and travel costs. In addition, I’m asking for prayers that they return home safely.

This trip was intended to be a celebration of her retirement. Instead it has turned into a financial nightmare on top of the stress of the injuries. My mother was a nurse for 44 years; she just retired one month ago, and now she finds herself a patient along with her husband of 38 years.
